Continuum-kinematics-inspired peridynamics: Thermo-mechanical problems

چکیده

The recently proposed continuum-kinematics-inspired peridynamics (CPD) is extended to account for thermo-mechanical coupling at large deformations. key features of CPD are that it geometrically exact and built upon multi-neighbour interactions. bond-based interactions the original PD formalism equivalent one-neighbour CPD. Two- three-neighbour interactions, however, fundamentally different from state-based in basic elements continuum kinematics preserved exactly. We elaborate on thermodynamic restrictions interaction energies derive thermodynamically consistent constitutive laws through a Coleman–Noll-like procedure. Notably, we show various choices temperature, or coldness, satisfy dissipation inequality provide meaningful evolution equations together with Fourier-like conduction relations.

Peridynamics, Fracture, and Nonlocal Continuum Models

Most physical processes are the result of collective interactions across disparate length and time scales. The dynamic fracture of brittle solids is a particularly interesting collective interaction connecting large and small length scales. With the application of enough stress or strain to a sample of brittle material, atomistic-scale bonds will eventually snap, leading to fracture of the macr...

Continuum Thermo-Mechanics Fundamentals

We assume that at the continuum scales of interest here, the mass density ⇢ as well as the the momentum per unit volume ⇢u can be interpreted as well-defined averages of microscopic masses and momenta. That is, they are averages over minute spatial regions and time intervals, which can nevertheless be chosen large enough that there are negligible statistical fluctuations about those averages at...

Analysis of thermo-mechanical wear problems for reciprocal punch sliding

The relative sliding motion of two elastic bodies in contact induces wear process and contact shape evolution. The transient process tends to a steady state occuring at fixed contact stress and strain distribution. This state corresponds to the minimum of the wear dissipation power. The optimality conditions of the functional provide the contact stress distribution and the wear rate compatible ...

The Particle Finite Element Method (PFEM) in thermo-mechanical problems

The aim of this work is to develop a numerical framework for accurately and robustly simulating the different conditions exhibited by thermo-mechanical problems. In particular the work will focus on the analysis of problems involving large strains, rotations, multiple contacts, large boundary surface changes and thermal effects. The framework of the numerical scheme is based on the Particle Fin...

A partitioned solution approach for electro-thermo-mechanical problems

The purposes of this article are to present new aspects of modeling multi-physically coupled fields, focusing particularly on the partitioned treatment of electro-thermo-mechanical problems. Coupled problems of this kind occur in many industrial applications, such as micro-electrical devices, field-assisted sintering processes or electrical fuses. In this paper, we restrict ourselves to the cas...
